Through collaborative process
and knowledge of local construction
practices our team has saved clients over $34 million on 18 projects in the last 10 years by improving structural design efficiency .
44 MONROE, a luxury apartment complex in Phoenix, AZ was designed for 32 floors. Our efficient structural design saved the project enough money to add 2 extra floors resulting in a 34 floor building at the same construction budget.
BANNER ESTRELLA HOSPITAL EXPANSION included the addition of a 6 story tower - that expanded the hospital by 280,000 SF. The tower offers 178 additional private patient beds and two additional parking structures accommodating 800 spaces. PKA changed the typical floor systems used in hospitals to a CIP joist system. This creative engineering and advanced knowledge of concrete saved over $1.5 Million, by avoiding costly upfront mill orders and eliminating the need for fireproofing.
CASINO DEL SOL required the addition of 215 new luxury hotel rooms, conference center, lobby lounge, full spa, outdoor pool, warehouse and a 4-level covered parking structure for 1,100 vehicles. PKA changed the foundation system from caissons to spread footings and reduced the spans of the hotel plates resulting in significant savings for foundation cost including slab rebar. This efficient engineering also reduced construction time, overall saving over $1.2 Million.
LARGE TEMPE DEVELOPMENT The team invited PKA to participate later in the process to provide Value Engineering to assess the efficiency of the proposed structural framing. PKAs assessment suggested eliminating expensive sheer walls by using a higher grade steel and using a boxed core system. In addition PKA advised changing the podium to a lighter CIP concrete pan joist system which reduced the intended amount of columns in the parking garage by half. This efficient engineering saved over $7 Million.
