The new 6-story hospital tower expanded the Banner Estrella Medical Center by 280,000 square feet. The tower offers 178 additional private patient beds to serve the growing West Valley, bringing the total number of beds to 392. The Design-Build expansion includes a 6,000 square foot addition to the existing central plant, a tie into the existing mechanical tunnel, and two additional parking structures. The new parking structures accommodate a total of 837 vehicles – a 171,619 SF 420-stall staff parking structure and a 167,614 SF 417-stall guest parking structure. Both structures are 5-levels.

PK Associates recommended the utilization of a cast-in-place (CIP) concrete pan joist system – not the typical floor system used in hospitals. This creative engineering and advanced knowledge of concrete saved over $1.5 million, by avoiding costly upfront mill orders and eliminating the need for fireproofing.
